Longwarry lose, drop to fourth

Longwarry travelled to Drouin for a division one clash on Saturday.

Longwarry was well beaten on three of the four rinks to go down by 41 shots.

Division six had a better day, defeating Churchill away to keep a tight grip on second position on the ladder.

Division one: Longwarry 2/76 lost to Drouin 16/117.

Elio Meggetto, Judy Eastwell, Kenneth Towt and Barry White (skip) lost to Dale Hendrick’s team 21/30.

Drouin got away to a great start to be 11 shots up at the break. Longwarry made some inroads, getting within four shots by end 19, but then undid all the good work. They dropped 10 shots in the next three ends to eventually lose by nine.

Brian Hennessy, Mark Serong, Hank Metselaar and Russell White (skip) lost to Les Firth’s team 12/39.

Longwarry won the first end and that was about all the joy the boys had for the day. They only won another six ends to be well beaten by a better team on the day.

Glenn Pask, Vicki Hanks, Jason Lieshout and Slim Eastwell (skip) defeated Adam Proctor’s team 29/19.

Longwarry lost the first two ends before enjoying a great run, picking up 13 shots in the next seven ends. This set up a great 10-shot win as Longwarry’s only winning rink for the day.

Ken White, Simon Counsel, Ian Peterson and John McCarthy (skip) lost to Toby Wallace’s team 14/29.

Drouin got the jump on Longwarry and was seven shots up after two ends. Drouin led by 13 shots at the break. The second half of the game was even but the damage had been done early, as Drouin won by 15 shots.

Division six: Longwarry 10/54 defeated Churchill 0/32.

Sharon Twite, Brian Mason, Eddy Bluck and Gerard “Hog” Mitchell (skip) defeated Marion Newton’s team 31/10.

Longwarry controlled this rink, increasing the lead throughout the day. Playing well as a team, they recorded a 21-shot win.

Reg Dunn, Graeme Hanks, Sean Garrity and Frank Hone (skip) defeated Ray Meden’s team 23/22.

In a game that Churchill controlled for most of the day, Longwarry stunned by picking up 12 shots in four ends from end 18 to take a five-shot lead. Churchill tried valiantly to get back, but Longwarry held on by one shot in a great game. (2) (2)
