Flying Fawcett leads Warriors to victory

- By Joel Batson Division two:

Western Park moved back into the top four with an easy win over Ellinbank.

Bowling first, Tyler McMillan (3-25), Josh Baker (2-11) and Jacob Konstanty (2-30) proved too good for the young Eagles, as Ellinbank struggled to just 93 all out.

In reply, Ellinbank's poor bowling form continued, as only former division one players Tom Robertson and Michael Pandolfo could make any in-roads. Dale Fawcett (65*) took his chance to find form, smashing eight boundaries as he carried the Warriors home in just 21 overs.

After a shock loss last week, Catani returned to winning ways on the weekend.

Batting first, a strong start from Josh Bethune (38) and Ross Douglas (29) aided the Blues' cause, as they made 9-164, despite three middle-order ducks. Tom Kent (3-28), Alex Henshall (2-27) and Sam Whibley (2-32) were the pick of the bowlers for the 'Roos, however, they didn’t have the required contributors with bat.

Sam Whibley (76) was brutal in his approach, hitting three towering sixes, but found absolutely no support as Josh Miller (423) and Daniel Glover (3-6) did the business comfortably for the away side. They bundled Hallora out for just 113.

Drouin continued its winning ways, resigning Iona to sixth on the table with a convincing victory.

Bowling first, Jamie Glen (2-40) found early breakthroughs, but was stymied by Kieran Lenders (37) and Mick Taylor (29) who put the pressure back on the reigning premiers. Ian Mortimer (2-30) and John Perry (2-9) managed to hold their nerves, as Iona's turf struggles continued in this premiership rematch, all out for just 141.

In reply, Paul Timewell produced his best innings in several years, completely dominating the Swamp Tiger attack. Timewell blasted 81 to erase all doubt about the result, as Drouin cruised home with six wickets to spare, with only Taylor (3-30) able to generate any penetration for Iona.

Warragul has shown why they are one of the most dangerous teams in the division, crushing bottom of the ladder Garfield-Tynong.

Bowling first, Matt Runnalls (4-12) tore through the Titans batting line-up, as he and Tim Whitten (2-16) skittled the home side for just 123.

In reply, the Gulls made the chase look embarrassingly easy as Garfield-Tynong's bowlers not quite up to the task. Tyler Constantine (76*) smashed five sixes, while Matt Bow (33*) provided constant support; the pair wiping off the total in just 17 overs.

In the match of the weekend, Longwarry outlasted Jindivick to win in an absolute nailbiter.

Batting first, the Crows lost early wickets thanks to Jordan Smith (2-34) and Luke Hume (2-42), however, Yashan Smarasinghe (57) and Cole Cook (47*) rebuilt the innings with some fine stroke-play to keep the home side on track.

Scotty Kelly (33) played some brilliant strokes at the end to set up a well-balanced chase, as Longwarry made 6-184 off the allotted overs.

In reply, Jindivick were well on track for much of the innings as Jordan Smith (48) and Greg Interlandi (29) found form at the top of the order. However, despite the middle-order brilliance of Eddie McGillivray (62), the Jumping Jacks' innings stalled. A frantic last over that included two run-outs ensured, with Samarasinghe ultimately having the final say. His clutch end of game skillset proved the difference, with Jindivick falling three runs short of victory in a thriller.
