Gulls cruise to victory

- By Adam Johnson Division five Division five was back in action, with Bunyip and Warragul maintaining their dominance over the competition.

Catani snuck into the four with a resounding win over Western Park while a bolstered Jindivick comfortably accounted for Drouin. Gulls post big total

Warragul Gulls ran out easy winners after posting a big total against Neerim District.

Sent in by the Stags, Amandeep Singh (48) and Vaneet Singh (45) set the tone early with an 81-run opening stand. Paul Singh kept up the pace, finishing on 51 not out, with cameos from Jimmy Atwal (32) and Amrinder Singh (37 not out) setting the required run-rate at almost seven per over.

Tom Parker (3/48) and Will Ladds (2/54) toiled away in the blustery conditions to be the pick of the bowlers.

In reply, it was the usual suspects of Remo Graziotin (52 retired not out) and Anthony McCann (50 retired not out) who helped the visitors post what would otherwise be a competitive score.

Ajay Bajwa was the most economical of the bowlers, returning figures of 3/9 off five overs while Amrinder Singh chimed in with 3/18.

First win for Jumping Jacks paid to any hope the Hawks had.

AJ Unwin snared big scalps to finish with 2/27, while Sugars (2/27) and Dixon (2/32) cleaned up the middle and lower order between them.

Cats into the four

Catani moved into fourth spot after a resounding win over Western Park.

Batting first, the Cats started slowly before upping the pace after the drinks break. Liam Keily (57 retired not out) anchored the innings early on with a measured knock, which allowed Danny Brewster (44) to free his arms.

Ben Geyer (43 not out) played a supporting role, gaining in confidence as he repeatedly found the on-side boundary, helping his side to set a formidable target.

In pursuit, the Warriors were in trouble early as Brewster (3/39) struck multiple blows. Mark Fleming (45) and Tyler Payroli (on debut) lent credibility to the scorecard, however, combining to add nearly 100 to the total.

Jimmy Burke made a rapid 18 in his return match before Payroli re-entered the arena in junk time, adding two more towering sixes to his tally to end the day 72 not out.

Geoff Lindorf (3/10) and Ryan Smith (2/28) chimed in with late wickets.

Panthers pummlled

Bunyip only needed 14 overs to account for Yarragon down at Bunyip. Having restricted the visitors to a meagre total, Peter Duffus (21) and Mat Dare (41 not out) stuck to the Bulls modis operandi of aggressive batting when chasing targets.

Earlier in the day, consistent pressure from opening bowlers Dare (2/11) and Ben Sharpe (2/10) made it hard for the visitors to get going as wickets fell at regular intervals. Jerry Whibley (2/10) and Dylan Gallasch (3/11) continued to restrict the Panthers as they battled through 35 overs.

Carlo Ierfone and Barry Boyle were the only batsman to reach double figures, scoring 17 apiece.
