Whibley wills Hallora home in stunning win

- By Joel Batson Division 2:

Hallora has completed one of the runchases of the year to stun Jindivick at home on the weekend.

Bowling first, Jindivick were all over the Hallora bowling attack, as Jordan Smith (64) and Eddie McGillivray (49) smashed the wayward Kangas to all parts, the Jumping Jacks making an imposing 4-181 off their allotted overs.

Daniel Hughes (2-20) and Liam Serong (234) the wicket-takers for the home side. In reply, Hallora needed their star man Sam Whibley to play a big knock and his quick-fire 72 got the ball rolling. Steven Fox (37) played a brilliant supporting hand, while Jack Serong (39*) helped guide the ship home, Hallora reaching the target with three balls to spare.

Longwarry has continued their strong form, easily accounting for a young Ellinbank side on the weekend.

Bowling first, the Crows found wickets from the majority of their bowling attack. Yashan Smarasinghe (3-14), Justin McCleary (2-7), Liam McDonald (2-13) and Zac Wright (2-15) all chipping in to help remove Ellinbank for just 77. In reply, McCleary was dominant again as he looked for an early finish, smashing a quick-fire 55 to see Longwarry passed the total in just 8.2 overs.

Western Park have continued their winning ways, easily accounting for bottom of the ladder Garfield-Tynong.

Batting first on a flat wicket, Adam Feltham (60), Dale Fawcett (50) and Sam Cheeseman (40) filled their boots, hitting boundaries for fun as Western Park made a massive 6-238 to give the Titans’ little hope of victory.

In reply, the away side got contributions from Craig Cousin (38*) and Archer Burgmann (33), however Liam O’Connor (335) and Matt Garner (2-18) won the day as Garfield-Tynong we’re all out for 130.

Catani’s iron-grip on Division 2 continues to slip away, losing first place to a rampant Drouin side in a thrilling contest on the weekend.

Bowling first, the reigning premiers looked to contain the Blues, Jamie Glen (2-29) the only multiple wicket-taker as Liam Adams (40) and James Vela (35) grew the score to a modest 6-149 thanks to some tight Hawks’ bowling.

In reply, Drouin’s innings stopped and started thanks to Clint Fulton (3-23), however Jamie Glen (51) showed his all-round abilities to keep Drouin in the contest. Still, they would need a hero to pull the game from the fire and the newly-promoted Adin Short obliged, making a brisk 26* at number nine to see Drouin home in a nail-biter by three wickets.

An absolute whirlwind century by Tyler Constantine has seen Warragul home to their best victory since their glory days of several years ago.

Bowling first, the Gulls struggled to make inroads at the usual batter-friendly Iona ground, as Mick Taylor (52), Liam Lenders (49*) and Luke Ferguson (32) smashed the ball to all parts as the Swamp Tigers made an imposing 6-211.

All this did was give Constantine a licence to attack though, and per usual, he went on an absolute spree, destroying Iona’s new ball. Following up his five sixes last week, Constantine decided to put 10 over the rope in a remarkable show of hitting, the tall, lanky right-hander making 100 before drinks to set the tone. Matthew Bow (38) provided a great supporting knock, however a middle-order collapse spurred by Mick Taylor (4-17), almost gave Iona the win.

A last-ditch effort from Daniel Whitten (19*) got the Gulls over the line with three wickets to spare, signalling a warning for the rest of the competition.
