Win gives Warragul double final chance

Warragul Bowling Club had a good day in Round 13 of WGBD pennant on Saturday, with the division two team winning over the top team Moe, while the other two games were washed out.

This win has cemented the team in the top two and given them a double chance in the finals.

Warragul one defeated Moe 107/81

John Vickerman, Ken Scammell, Janette Gallasch, Andrew Glover lost to Jayde Leech’s team 21/24. This team got off to a good start and was 13/5 up after 11 ends.

However, Moe fought back and drew level at 13 all after 15 ends. They were 14 all, 19 all and 21 all before Moe went on to a three shot win.

David Alderman, Ian Belling, Peter Gallasch, Clive Padgham def Ted Kuklinski’s team 28/27. They were 7/9 down after seven ends, but then got 11 shots in a row to lead 17/9.

They lost the second half but had enough of a lead to scrape home by one shot.

Des Stephens, Paul Simmons, Jim Power, Graeme Davis lost to Stuart Caines’ team 18/23. This was a very tight game all day with the scores level at 10 all after 14 ends.

The game seesawed after that with Warragul going one up with two ends to play, however they lost threes on the last two ends to lose by five.

Brian Kennedy, Luke Ward, Pat Hammond, Bill Clappers def Sandy Caines’ team 40/7. This team had a day out to say the least. They were up 11/0 after six ends and 18/1 after 11.

They went to 25/2 after 14, before Moe got a few to be 7/27 after 19. Bill’s team won the last six ends for a brilliant 33 shot win. They won a staggering 20 of the 25 ends.

Next Saturday in round 14, Warragul division two is home to Traralgon two, division three is away to Yinnar and division four is away to Garfield two.

Club news

Warragul’s Darren McDonald has won the Strzelecki Region novice singles final. He achieved this by defeating the South Gippsland champion from Inverloch 21/12 at Traralgon on Sunday.

Darren will now go to the Victorian State Final at Mulgrave on Sunday March 1. Well done “Fridge”.

The final of the men’s 100 up will be played tomorrow at 3pm between Andrew Glover and David Alderman.

Neerim District played at home against Drouin (2) and after a series of halts to play due to rain the heavens opened up and play was abandoned.

Seventy of the 100 ends had been completed with Drouin holding a comfortabl­e lead at the time.

All other games in the division were completed.

WGBD Saturday Division 4 Round 12 Neerim District Bowling Club (2) played away against Drouin (3) and although the game was close the weather was the winner and play was abandoned.

In Division 4, only one of the four games was completed and as such the results did not count and all sides shared the points.

WGBD Tuesday Division 2 Round 12

Neerim District played away against Morwell Club and lost 44 shots to 63 with Neerim now slipping out of the four.

Karren Sheers (skip), Cookie Halligan, Sue Nelsun and Gerry Engelstad lost to S.Karleusa’s team 13 shots to 24. Neerim took a long time to get going and had won only three of the first ten ends and trailed by 10 shots. By the 15th end the score was Neerim six
