Ficifolia art success

-

The Ficifolia Art Show has been deemed a success in terms of opening night attendance and artwork sales.

Conducted by the Baw Baw Arts Alliance (Bbaa) and held at the Drouin Football Clubrooms, the opening night attracted some 150 people to hear the awards announcements, view artwork and enjoy tasty food.

Nearing the conclusion of the exhibition, organisers reported over 20 artworks sold.

Judges, Lea Jones from Morwell and Erin Matthews from Sale, used words and phrases such as, “impeccable skill and use of materials”, “soft colour evoking calm and tranquil summer evenings”, “great skill in repurposing materials”, and “high level of skill in shading, tone, colour” in describing works. These indicated the high level of artistic creativity of the works exhibited.

In order to inject some variety and fun into the art show, demonstrations of artists working in different mediums representing the different Bbaa groups were held over the 10 days of the show.

A new feature was a special night of mayhem, “Creative Frenzy”. This night saw nine artists completing a work in two hours based on the elements of still life contributed by the artists themselves.

Ingrid Thomas was the primary organiser and a participant along with Dot Thorne, Anita George, Jessie McLennan, Jo Draisma, Liz Bowley, Helen Timbury, Yvette Stubbs and Nola Clark.

The resulting works were in a variety of mediums from acrylic paint, pastel, inks and mixed media. These worked were available in a silent auction that concluded at the exhibition’s end.

Bbaa said the art show had been a great success from the unique collaboration with Drouin Football Club, numbers of entries, sales, displays of creative art activities, number of participants and range of medium.
