A fitting farewell to Doris
Country star Melinda Schneider will perform a tribute to the legendary Doris Day in Warragul.
“A Farewell to Doris” will appear at the West Gippsland Arts Centre on Saturday, February 29 at 8pm.
Doris Day, “the girl next door”, had millions of fans around the world, none bigger than chart-topping Australian singer songwriter Melinda Schneider. She recorded two albums of Doris’ songs, co-wrote and starred in a theatre show based on Doris’ life, and has performed sell-out tours celebrating Doris’ work.
“It was very sad,” said Schneider of Doris’ death last year at the age of 97. “I really though she’d make it to 100, but what a wonderful life she had.”
“Singing her songs and telling her incredible story of resilience has been an absolute honour, and I’m happy to have the opportunity to celebrate her wonderful talent with audiences once again,” she added.
The nostalgic concert will reflect on her incredible body of work, including iconic movies and unforgettable songs, as well as reflect her life story.
Schneider’s love affair with Doris Day started when she was eight and saw Calamity Jane.
“I thought she was the best of everything a woman can be, and when I grew up I wanted to be just like her,” she said.
With many regional centres struggling through drought and bushfire, Schneider is looking forward to “bring a bit of Doris joy” with this concert tour.
Tickets are $54.90 for general, $49.90 for members and concession and $25 for youth under 15. A VIP package is also available for $120 per person.
