Garden club plans for 2020

-

Despite being held on the Monday of Australia Day weekend, there was a very good attendance at the January meeting of Warragul and District Garden Club.

About 50 members and guests attended.

In addition, the competition benches were full to overflowing, a great first display for 2020.

The meeting began with a short silence in memory of a longtime member Edythe Matchett who died earlier in the month. Edythe was always in the audience, keen to learn a bit more about gardening.

Those members present were treated to a kaleidoscope of photos, taken on the week-long November bus trip to the Hunter Valley Rose Gardens and Christmas Lights Spectacular.

En route the tour took in several wonderful gardens and a boat trip. Ten members of the club joined a number of other gardening enthusiasts on the tour organised by ‘Tour Local’.

The slides, many of which had multiple pictures on them, were presented by Heather Coustley and Aileen White. Lots of garden ideas were gathered by the members who had a great time on the trip.

Competition winners were: Flower of the Month (Hydrangea), Jan Swan and Best Exhibit (Flowering

Gum),Denis Hall.

Joy Vikas gave details of speakers that have been organised for 2020 with spots to the end of August being filled already.

Two trips are also in place. The first is a group trip again to the Melbourne International Garden Show but this time the club will be going to the twilight session under lights Friday, March 27.

The second will be an autumn colours trip to Taradise Gardens in Tarra Bulga National Park on Apri 30l. Nonmembers are welcome to join us. Please note wheelchairs and walkers are available with prior requests and a portable defibrillator is carried on the bus. on

The next meeting will be held at the Warragul Senior Citizen’s Centre at 9.30am on Monday February 24. The guest speaker will discuss “Better Management of Watering Systems for Gardens”.

Everyone is welcome. More details of club activities are available on our web site www.warragulgardenclub.com
