It has been a fantastic year for the Longwarry side to make finals. It comes after they won their way into division one in the 2018/19 season.

They will now play Newborough on Saturday, with the winner to take on Traralgon in the grand final.

Longwarry’s division six team will also play in the preliminary final against Morwell Club on Saturday. It comes after they lost to top team Churchill by 25 shots in the second semi-final at Yallourn North.

Division one: Longwarry 18/97 defeated Traralgon RSL 2/86.

Glenn Pask, Grant Pask, Jason Lieshout and Slim Eastwell (skip) defeated Rick Lukey’s team 22/20.

Traralgon settled the best and got out to a five-shot lead by end 10. The Longwarry boys came back strong, picking up nine shots in the next three ends to take a four-shot lead into the break.

The second half was a great context with neither side giving away much. Longwarry held on for a great two-shot win.

Elio Meggetto, Judy Eastwell, Kenneth Towt and Barry White (skip) lost to Dave Hodson’s team 19/32.

Longwarry was on the back foot from the start and was 11 shots down at the main break. To Longwarry’s credit, they didn’t let RSL get too much further in front, eventually losing by 13.

Ken White, Simon Counsel, Hank Metselaar and John McCarthy (skip) defeated Morice Gardiner’s team 28/18.

Longwarry got out to a great start, playing some good team bowls and leading 19/7 by end 14. The remainder of the game was fairly even but Longwarry had done the damage early, winning by 10 shots.

Brian Hennessy, Mark Serong, Ian Peterson and Russell White (skip) defeated Beau

Williamson’s team 28/16.

In this rink, Longwarry also got off to a great start. By end 14, Longwarry was 12 shots up. RSL was unable to make up any ground on the Longwarry team in the last half, with Longwarry winning by 12 shots in a great team effort.

Division six: Longwarry (2) lost to Churchill 33/58.

Reg Dunn, Ron Sutton, Frank Hone and Vicki Hanks (skip) lost to Sean Peter’s team 19/29.

Longwarry was well in the game and, after picking up a four on end 14, led by two shots. However, Churchill stormed home, picking up 13 shots in the last seven ends to win by 10.

Sharon Twite, Sean Garrity, Eddie Bluck and Gerard “Hogg” Mitchell (skip) lost to Shirley Turner’s team 29/14.

This rink was also a close game, with Longwarry within one shot by end 17. But that was as close as they got. Churchill picked up 17 shots in the last eight ends to win by 15.
