-

Warragul Bowling Club had a bad day in the WGBD pennant semi-finals on Saturday, with both teams losing.

Whilst the season is over for the division three side, division two will get a second chance. They will play Garfield on Saturday. Division two: Warragul lost to Moe 94/112. John Vickerman, Ken Scammell, Janette Gallasch and Andrew Glover defeated Ted Kuklinski’s team 35/20.

They got off to a slow start and were 0/7 after three ends, before getting 14 on the next five ends. There were some big numbers both ways as Warragul got out to 24/17. They won eight of the last 10 ends to be Warragul’s only winning team.

David Alderman, Ian Belling, Peter Gallasch and Clive Padgham lost to Stuart Caines’ team 23/31.

Warragul got off to a flyer with seven on the first end and two on the next two to be 11/0. They were 14/1 after six but, against the run of play, dropped 12 on the next four ends. They regrouped to go to a 22/16 lead after 16 ends, but only won one of the remaining ends to go down by eight.

Des Stephens, Paul Simmons, Jim Power and Graeme Davis lost to Sandy Caines’ team 18/32.

A slow start saw Warragul trail 0/5 after four ends and 8/21 after 16. They got eight over the next four ends, but only got two over the last five ends to go down by 14.

Jim Moyle, Luke Ward, Pat Hammond and Bill Clappers lost to Jayde Leech’s team 18/29.

This team got off to a flyer and were 9/1 after four ends. They hit the wall to be 12/14 at the break. Their second half was not good, with just six shots to 15 for an 11-shot loss.

Division three: Warragul (2) lost to Traralgon RSL (2) 87/104.

Jack Lee, Linda McCoy, Norm Dickson and David Smith defeated Brendan Smiles’ team 24/18.

Warragul started slowly and were 0/7 after five ends and 10/16 after 16. They had a great last nine ends, with 14 shots to two (including a six) to win by six.

Kerrie Currie, Greg Mitchell, David Ferguson and Necip Akarsu lost to J. Farquaar’s team 22/30.

It was an even start with the teams tied at three-all and six-all before Warragul jumped ahead 16/12 after 16 ends. They struggled over the last nine ends, getting just six shots while conceding 18 to go down by eight.

Ken Brown, Ron Collins, Gabrielle Draisma and Elsie Hefford defeated G. Gibbins’ team 25/18.

Elsie’s team got off to a great start and were 9/0 after seven ends, and a huge 20/3 after 13. They lost 10 shots over the next four ends to be 20/13, before winning four of the next five to be 25/14. They lost the last three ends but hung on by seven shots.
