Six Gumnut Guides clean up the town

-

Warragul Gumnut Guides (aged 5-8 years old) did their bit for Clean Up Australia on Tuesday by walking through the main streets of Warragul collecting rubbish.

Gumnut Guide Leader, Kaye Knight said Clean Up Australia had become an annual community service activity for the girls. “Community service is an important part of being a Girl Guide and this is something even our youngest Girl Guide unit in Warragul can be involved in.”

The last two years the guides have cleaned the areas around Bowen St near the guide hall. “The first year we actually pulled a child’s bike out of the creek but to be honest, the park was so clean last year, the girls had to look really hard to find rubbish,” said Kay.

Gumnut Girl Guides in Warragul is for girls aged 5 – 8 years old and includes more than community service. “Each week the girls do different activities.

“It might be science activities one week, practicing putting up tents another. We even have a MasterChef cooking week coming up where the girls will cook Choc Chip cookies and the older Girl Guides will judge our girls for taste and appearance,” Kaye said. “It’s all about trying new things, making new friends, teamwork and having fun.”

Gumnut Guides meet after-school in Bowen St, Warragul every Tuesday during school term. The first two weeks are free and Guides is generally very affordable compared to other after school activities. If you have a daughter who would like to try Guiding in Warragul, call Kaye on 0401 100 700
