Garden club

-

There was another good attendance at the February meeting of the Warragul Garden Club together with a full competition bench.

The ideal garden conditions at this time of year has given our external judges a big job with a great line up to sort out.

February is Dahlia time and there has been no shortage of rain with plenty of beautiful examples in the flower of the month competition. This section was won by Carol Burns who was successful in four separate sections. She also was awarded best exhibit for her exhibit of potatoes.

Catriona Ferguson was the speaker who described some very good ways of improving watering systems in gardens using her own as a prime example.

This year has been really different but during normal summers people need to restrict the amount of water we really need for our plants to survive. Members were most appreciative of her talk.

The next meeting at the Senior Citizens’ Centre, Mason Street, Warragul, will be a busy one with a presentation by Helen Lovel, of the fertiliser range produced by Neutrog plus the AGM to elect club officials for the coming year.

A decision was made recently to start the meetings earlier at 9.30am with doors opening at 8.45am for the benching of competition exhibits.

The committee has met recently and put in place speakers for the rest of 2020 and planned four trips throughout the year.
