Nige infectious in spreading cheer

-

While an infectious disease was on everybody’s minds last week, Warragul DJ Nigel Beck wanted to spread some infectious cheer in the community and fill the streets with music.

Retailers and shoppers took the time to say thank you. On days when the supermarkets were frantic and people became more anxious with increased restrictions, Nige said hearing the words thank you and seeing smiles on people’s faces was humbling.

We have seen images of Italians in lockdown, coming to their balconies to share music and drinks and keep their community spirit alive.

Nige said playing music to people had been his passion so it was natural to share it.

His music echoed through the car parks and streets of Warragul.

Nige said there was so much worry among people at the moment and rather than staying at home feeling sad, he wanted to spread some cheer and do some good.

“Lots of people are doing good things.

“Some people just ignored me and went on with their business, but others made the effort to come and say hi and thank you.

Nige also received grateful text messages – “thank you for doing what you are doing.”

Nige began in Palmerston St on Wednesday and moved around the central business district throughout the week.

He said the response from retailers was fantastic and very warming.

“Businesses are appreciating it, they want some life in the town.

And his efforts were rewarded by many free coffees from café owners, businesses and community members.

Nige promised he would be back in the weeks ahead but it seems his music is now in demand with retailers in Newborough and Traralgon also asking him to visit their town centres.

“It’s been an awesome experience,” he said.
