Funerals affected

-

As the coronavirus outbreak continues to affect various businesses that cater for crowds, Nielsen Funerals is doing as much as they can to accommodate funeral services.

Director Mark Gauci said that while the restrictions have seen the chapel only allow for a 50-person capacity, the team is still able to bring a service to those in attendance.

“Everything is still normal; we just need to abide by the restrictions to the number of people inside one room. We’ve been working on ways that we can still accommodate those who are coming to each funeral,” he said.

Nielsen’s have begun to live stream funerals so that those who may be in the high-risk category can still watch online, even if they cannot be present.

“That’s been a popular way we’ve been able to get around it, we had many watch from the nursing home as they weren’t allowed to attend, so to be able to bring that to them was good,” Mr Gauci said.

The company has taken all necessary precautions including crowd restrictions, using speakers to project the service to those outside, while also having hand sanitiser and continually cleaning surfaces, Mr Gauci said.

“It’s a very trying time and we are seeing most people head home quickly after the service, but we are still able to have burials and haven’t seen any postponements there yet,” he said.

Many families are choosing to hold private services, due to the restrictions Mr Gauci said.

“We are still able to provide a service for those wanting one however, with measures in place to cater for that during this time,” he said.
