Hospital releases five year plan

-

The Board of West Gippsland Healthcare Group (WGHG) has released its 2019-2024 Strategic Plan detailing where the health service’s focus will be over the next five years.

The plan puts the healthcare needs of a rapidly growing community at the centre with a Vision statement, “to deliver the best health outcomes for the West Gippsland community.”

To achieve this vision, board chairman Christine Holland, said the plan had four key objectives:

1. Work with government and key stakeholders to plan and secure our future

2. Ensure our services respond to the needs of a rapidly growing community

3. Support and enhance our team, capability and culture

4. Focus on person-centred care and inclusiveness

“This strategic plan sets out how WGHG will work with the community, health care partners and government to deliver highquality, person-centred care and to increase access to health services for all people in our community,” Ms Holland said.

“The region’s population continues to grow at a rapid rate, resulting in greater demand for health services. Not only is more health care required, but an evolving range and nature of health services are needed.”

Ms Holland said WGHG will continue to work towards strengthening the relationship with the Victorian Government to determine a future direction for the health service in the context of ageing infrastructure, capacity and growth pressures.

“We are committed to ensuring that the people we care for have access to high quality health services close to home. This requires innovation, efficiency, meaningful partnerships and the delivery of high quality healthcare.”

“Engaging and listening to our community and fostering an inclusive culture is very important to reduce barriers that prevent people from accessing health services.

“Over the past 12 months we have recruited consumer representatives with diverse backgrounds and skills to provide input and feedback into important service directions across WGHG.

“A new consumer stories program is also helping to improve understanding of patient care and a tool for continuous improvement.

She said the dedication of staff and the pursuit of excellence would be vital to the success of this strategic plan.

“To support staff, we have invested in organisation-wide training and talent development to nurture innovation as well as support for the health and well-being of staff. Staff have also been directly involved in creating their own WGHG Staff Values to guide the way they conduct themselves and deliver quality personcentred care every single day. The Staff Values are Respect, Leadership, Accountability, Collaboration and Improvement

In preparing for the plan, the board consulted widely with staff, patients and key stakeholders from a diverse range of groups and backgrounds.

“We thank our staff, consumers and healthcare partners for their contribution to the plan. We look forward to ongoing engagement with all these stakeholders to realise our strategic objectives by 2024.”
