Download the app
Member for Eastern Victoria Melina Bath has no concerns about the COVIDSafe smartphone application.
She has downloaded the app onto her ‘phone saying that the public has “everything to gain by downloading it”.
It is a critical step in helping to save lives by enabling quick identification of those that may have come into contact with someone that has tested positive to coronavirus, Ms Bath said, adding she had no concerns the app was intrusive or could be used to collect personal information.
It also creates the best way to help return everybody to more normalised lives, she said.
Member for Narracan Gary Blackwood downloaded the app as soon as it was made available.
He urged people, who hadn’t already done so, to download the app if they had the appropriate phone to do so.
It will help work towards the easing of some restrictions in a progressive fashion, he said.
Mr Blackwood said although there were disruptions for people the early signs in Victoria in managing the spread of coronavirus were positive.
This had been achieved through social distancing and increased testing for the virus, he said.
Mr Blackwood said he’d received mixed feedback from the community about home schooling, the main issues of concern relating to access to IT equipment and digital resources.
He said it was essential for schools, teachers, students and parents to learn of the government’s plans going forward.
