Small projects for four communities
expanding barbecue facilities were suggested for Noojee.
The playground upgrade at Willow Grove was resoundingly the top priority for community members, followed by removal of the recreation reserve rotunda and extension of the Landcare walking track.
Mayor Danny Goss said it was fantastic to see four new community-led projects endorsed.
“Each project will undoubtedly improve liveability, happiness and wellbeing for each respective community,” he said.
Cr Tricia Jones said she was pleased each community had their say on these projects and would now see their number one choice come to fruition.
Cr Michael Leaney said for towns to qualify for the placemaking program they had to demonstrate population decline, recent hardship, a low level of investment in infrastructure or a lack of community plan.
He said there had been a lot of robust conversations in the community meetings when projects were discussed.
“They were very thorough in weeding out the projects that weren’t suitable, but also had their say.
“This is designed to get money into small towns…it is a great program,” he said.
Cr Mikaela Power said each area had identified a need for their town after a strong level of community involvement.
Cr Darren Wallace said while it was only $200,000 in council’s budget, the program was giving rural and remote communities a say which was a great thing.
The previous round of the placemaking program saw projects delivered in Athlone, Erica, Thorpdale and Jindivick. Projects included street beautification works, a new playground and upgrades to recreation reserve infrastructure.
