Health Service Volunteers Give from the heart
West Gippsland Healthcare Group’s 150 volunteers are sorely missed during the current pandemic. Patients, clients, carers, visitors, aged care residents and staff are missing their friendly faces and the valuable service they offer. The team of volunteers are missing their work too. There are many areas where volunteers support West Gippsland Healthcare Group’s services. The Trafalgar Opportunity Shop and Drouin Auxiliary Opportunity Shop are staffed by dedicated volunteers who raise significant funds for our hospital through sales of donated goods. Aged care residents at Cooinda Lodge in Warragul and Andrews House in Trafalgar enjoy sharing time and conversations with volunteers who also assist with activities and events. Volunteer consumer representatives do important work on committees and working parties providing important consumer input and insight on key consumer issues. Palliative Care volunteers visit clients in their own homes in need of a social visitor. Concierge volunteers provide a friendly wayfinding service and assist the smooth transition of people around the hospital site. Book trolley volunteers provide a friendly face to patients delivering books and reading material.
Community Rehabilitation programs, Administration, Ward Services and Rawson Community Health Centre also benefit from the skills and experience of volunteers.
West Gippsland Healthcare Group also thanks the many service clubs, organisations and individuals who fundraise for our Healthcare Group throughout the year. West Gippsland Healthcare Group celebrates National Volunteers Week to let volunteers know their contribution is highly valued, and looks forward to welcoming all volunteers back when the time is right.
