Virtual camera club
On Monday, May 4 Warragul Camera Club members viewed the May general meeting on a special YouTube link.
Members saw the Warragul Camera Club’s monthly competition for the subject– “social documentary” - an image concerned with the portrayal and interpretation of society encompassing both human and non-human subject matter. A total of 58 entries was received and judged.
The images were judged by guest judge Adrian Smith, a member of Maroondah Photographic Society for 34 years, president on 13 occasions, president VAPS two years while on VAPS Committee for 13 years, chairman APS Convention 2001 in Shepparton. Michaels Camera Video Digital 13 years. Judging for 30 years including club, national at Warragul, Pakenham, Ballarat, Melbourne and International at Vigex and Adelaide’s Interphot. His photography spans nearly 60 years.
Laurie Snowball was the club’s competition steward and David Woodcock directed the digital processes to bring the monthly meeting and the presentation of the images to the club members via YouTube.

Members were each awarded digital certificates as acknowledgments of their wins announced by Laurie Snowball, to print off and retain.

The Club’s annual general meeting which was to be held on June 1 has been postponed until later in the year and needs to be done before end of September. Annual membership fees are now due for payment.
The 47th Warragul National Competition for digital images has been judged and the online catalogue is now available to view at warragulnational.org, presented by president The prints will be judged later in 2020.
Congratulations to Russell Monson who is the club’s most successful exhibitor of the National Competition. Russell is also the guru for Zoom meetings.
A special new club competition was announced – “Stuck at Home”, and entries close on May 18.
The 10 Club Portrait competition, run by the Camberwell Camera Club has three levels for entries, and entries close on May 7. Entries are required as PDIs (not prints). The Portrait Exhibition will be at the Monash Gallery of Art. The Gippsland Interclub competition has been postponed until December.
Thanks to outings steward Ron Paynter who produced an entertaining AV “in your backyard” that incorporated many creative digital images provided by the club’s members. Ron’s next monthly outing is planned for May 31. The club’s high country camping trip is scheduled for November, as is the presentation day featuring Adam Williams, and is open for bookings – trybooking.com/BJFED.
Behind the scenes there has been a lot of hard work by the club’s committee, working on many different aspects of the club to engage members with activities and interest. A sub committee is working on competition methods for 2021. The club’s monthly newsletter is particularly important and thanks to Rose Bosse who does an exceptional job of bringing all the club’s news together in 21 pages.
The next club events: May 8, an evening with Adrian Whear who will present street photography; a print interest group meeting will be held evening of Monday May 11, and a separate discussion forum on “the exposure triangle” will be held the same evening; a group discussion on AV – Audio Visual is proposed for May 18; Entries close May 18 for a special Club competition – “Stuck at Home”; Monday June 1 is the date to receive competition entries for “motion” which will be judged and announced at the July 6 meeting.
