DROUIN WINS RACE FOR LINGERIE FACTORY

-

The result was a makeshift, but pleasant temporary school.

The school burned down on Friday night, despite the efforts of 60 district firemen.

School aids and almost every item of equipment in the school went in the blaze.

Police are satisfied there were no suspicious circumstances.

In another fire last week, Mr and Mrs J. Sfrecola, of Trida, lost almost all their possessions when the weatherboard home in which they reside on Geary’s Road, was burned to the ground last Thursday.

The couple and their 11-month-old daughter were asleep when a guest of the family woke to find the house filled with smoke at about 11.15pm.

Within 15 minutes, only the shell of the house remained.

During the 3170-foot ride, the chairlift takes its passengers up a vertical rise of 955 feet – almost one-fifth of the mountain’s height. It can transport 500 people per hour. Introduction of the chairlift service represents a giant step forward for Mt Baw Baw.

A lingerie factory with an initial work force of 10 females will be established at Drouin.

At the same time, Buln Buln Shire Council has announced plans to build a factory workshop and offices for Drouin engineering firm, Retrae Pty Ltd.

The factory, for which Council will contribute $25,000, will be leased to Retrae for 14 years.

Shire secretary Mr K. A. Pretty said that Greta Lingerie Pty Ltd announced it would establish a factory at Drouin.

Mr Pretty said the factory would be establishing new Main Street premises owned by Mr D. Monaghan.

He said the factory was expected to be opening early next month.

The council has been negotiating with the company since May 15, and 40 females registered employment following advertisements.
