SANITARY PADDOCK

One would think that in an extensive district like Warragul it would not be difficult to secure a suitable place for a sanitary paddock, but it is proving just the opposite.

The district is getting sub-divided and watercours­es and dairies seem to be everywhere, when this accommodat­ion paddock is required.

The matter was brought before the council when a letter was received by Mr. Rose, the owner of the present depot, informing council that he required the land on July 1.

A resolution was moved by Cr. Keating to sell the site recently purchased to which exception has been taken by some South Riding ratepayers.

When Cr. Keating submitted his resolution, Cr. Oliver moved the following amendment:–

That the secretary be instructed to take the necessary steps to gazette the land purchased from Mr. Rose as a sanitary depot.

Cr. Oliver said that Mr. Rose’s letter came as a bombshell to him. He had personally tried, time after time, to find another site for the sanitary paddock.

Thieves stole about $4000 worth of cigarettes from a parked van at a Trafalgar house.

The thieves used oxy-acetylene equipment and bolt-cutters to cut a hole in the rear door of the van, which was parked only 30 feet from a bedroom of the house.

Police believe the thieves worked under cover of a stolen Victorian Railways tarpaulin.

The “haul” of 216,000 cigarettes was taken from a van owned by Merritt and Morris.
