Snapshot of the past
A photograph capturing a match in progress at the Warragul Bowling Green in Anderson Street c.1940.
The club house captured in this photograph was burnt down in 1949.
Note the lake that was in the Burke Street Park. It is overgrown with weeds and became the rubbish tip not long after this time.
In the 1940s to 1950s, a pine plantation was established on the corner of Anderson and Burke streets.
Since that time, the bowling green has been expanded and the park has become a top-class recreational area with skate park, barbeque facility, athletic track and walking trails.
Photograph and information courtesy of the Warragul and District Historical Society.
The society’s museum at the Old Shire Hall in Warragul is currently closed.
