No certainty for juniors in WGFL

-

In a twist, the West Gippsland Football league presidents are now deciding whether to put their football and netball juniors on the park in 2020 after receiving their season budgets from AFL Gippsland.

It will cost clubs around $7200 per side to play junior football and netball this season and it’s understood that presidents are not happy with the figure.

The sum has made it extremely difficult for clubs to commit to junior competitions this season but they remain defiant in wanting to see their kids playing football and netball and cannot understand why the costs are still high.

The figure is under what it would be for a normal season but remains more than clubs expected to pay considering the West Gippsland league is only looking at juniors in an eight-round competition.

All club presidents are continuing to discuss the budget and are formulating a cost base that is affordable and needs to be accepted by AFL Gippsland.

It would be a brutal blow to an already depleted season, with juniors the only hope to see some football and netball played in the league this season.

The West Gippsland junior season was hoping to kick off by July 18, however the date of July 25 has also been floated.

However, with the recent budget development, the season is now in doubt if an agreement cannot be worked out in the near future with developments set to arise in the coming weeks.
