Window of welcome

-

St Paul’s Anglican Grammar School kindergarten students have brightened the spirits of Abbey Garden residents.

The early learning centre students recently created their own art inspired gifts for residents of Abbey Gardens.

The children had been exploring the topic of family dynamics and how families are all unique and special.

They also discussed location and where they live in comparison to grandparents, with some students’ grandparents living in aged care facilities and others in their own homes.

The topic led to what is happening now and how COVID-19 restrictions impact on people in aged care facilities.

The children were keen to make a difference in the lives of others and set to work to create gifts for the residents of Abbey Gardens, attaching the name of the resident, their room number and a little message from each child to each art piece.

Whilst the children were keen to visit the residents and present their gifts in person, they understood that in the current COVID-19 situation, they were unable to do so.

Instead, a small group of students visited the Abbey Gardens “welcome window” and held up the gifts the children had made for the residents to view whilst the carers read out individual messages to residents.

The residents and carers sang “happy birthday” to student Charlotte Wilson, who had recently celebrated her birthday.

The visit ended with the group singing “Wash your face in orange juice” to the residents of which they were delighted to hear.
