Maroons win under Friday night lights

DROUIN MAROON v LONGWARRY Under 10

It was a beautiful night under lights for the match between Drouin Maroon and Longwarry. Drouin took an early lead. Longwarry fought hard through the game, with Drouin coming away with the win. Under 12

Milestones: Caleb Kleeven 50 games for Drouin. Will Van Der Heyden 50 games for Longwarry

With the freezing night air and a spectacula­r night sky the Maroons brought it home with a 92 to 2 win over Longwarry.

Kaiden Walmsley made his debut kicking four goals for the Drouin Maroons, Cooper Amey and Caleb Kleeven also chipped in with two goals each for the Maroons, who proved just too strong for Longwarry on the night. A credit to all the boys for giving it their all until the siren sounded.

Under 14

Great game played under lights! Longwarry and Drouin Maroon both put up a good fight and was an entertaini­ng game to watch

THE BULLS v WARRAGUL BLUES

Under 10

After heading out to Poowong, the Under 10 boys arrived pumped and ready to play. The Bulls were quiet on the scoreboard leaving the half time score in the Blues favour. Both clubs had kids running, kicking and most importantl­y smiling on game day.The final score was 1.4.10 to 1-point in favour of the Blues, leaving the Under 10 team feeling proud as punch. Under 12

Milestones: Clayton Quaife 100 games. Chad Hansch 50 games. Jai Polley 50 games, James Demicoli 50 games.

A cracking morning at Poowong Rec Reserve saw The Bulls take on the Blues in a reasonably even contest. The Blues got away to a good start and were able to maintain a gap on the scoreboard throughout the rest of the game. A good game by both teams saw the Blues win by 11 points.

Under 14

A perfect day for football with the ground in great condition and the sun out. The Bulls got off to a good start by kicking the first two goals. After quarter time the stopped running and chasing and allowed the Blues to get their running game going. The bulls tried hard all game but with an undermanne­d side the allowed the Blues to run out winners. WARRANOR v DROUIN GOLD

Under 10

What a great start to the morning with beautiful sunshine. Very competitiv­e and played in good spirit between both teams.

Under 12

Milestone: George Morgan 75 games Drouin Gold began strongly and with clean ball use and a willingnes­s to run hard, took an early lead. Warranor continued to fight hard all game. It was a good tough game from both teams on a perfect sunny day for football. Well done to both teams.

Under 14

Another fiercely fought contest on possibly the best day of winter. Both sides moved the ball well, Warranor gaining the ascendancy in the third quarter and running out winners. HALLORA v ELLINBANK

Under 10

Fantastic weather conditions at Hallora made for a sunny start to Saturday football. Both teams fielded all players, ensuring all kids got a full game.

The game was played in good spirits, with many of the smaller, first year players enjoying plenty of touches. Ellinbank put together a solid four quarters and enjoyed a good win. Under 12

Milestone: Archie Wright 50 games Wonderful day at Hallora and ground in 'top nick’. Ellinbank built a steady lead until half time. Hallora continued to apply the heat on the bankers and showed great passages of play. Unfortunat­ely the score board didn’t reflect their efforts. Ellinbank went on to cement a convincing win. Well played all.

Under 14

A brilliant day for footy. Great to see keen kids on the field in these times. Ellinbank a brilliant side, scoring consistent­ly straight up. Hallora putting on excellent pressure the entire game, and putting in a ripper fourth quarter. Awesome watching them dig deep and come back into the game. It wasn’t quite enough to get the win, but brilliant to watch. Well done both teams.

YARRAGON v NEERIM DISTRICT

Under 10

Frosty, but as the sun shone through Yarragon and Neerim ran out onto the ground for an epic battle. Competitiv­e and strong, both teams fought to score just one behind each by half time.

Frustratin­g for both players and spectators, both teams kept fighting and pushing for that breakthrou­gh. Strong marking and hard tackling finally led to a couple of goals being scored in the final term, and the Cats coming home with the win. Great job both teams. Under 12

In tightly contested under 12s game both Yarragon and Neerim fought hard to gain possession with scoring opportunit­ies proving hard to come by.The last quarter was again a tight affair with Neerim’s determinat­ion and effort at the ball proving enough to hold off Yarragon who maintained the pressure until the final siren. Neerim’s young under 10’s players who stepped up into the 12’s held their own out on the field, supporting 12s to well-deserved win.

Under 14

Both teams came out strong and determined on this beautiful Saturday morning. Yarragon kicked the first goal, quickly followed by a goal to Neerim.

Both teams were consistent too the end, giving a great contest. Yarragon took out the win.

Special mention to our amazing goal umpire, Glenn. Glenn will be with us for the season.

BULN BULN v COLTS

Under 10

What a beautiful day, great team work played by both teams. Buln started well in the first quarter with Colts fighting back hard in the second half.

Under 12

Milestone: Lenny White 50 games

Warm and sunny conditions and Buln were quick to put the first score on the board, quickly followed by a second. Colts made life hard for the birds with strong tackling through the centre and adding pressure constantly.The first quarter ended 4-4-29 to 0-0-0. The Colts held Buln at bay for the final quarter ending the game with a Buln win 8-10-58 to Colts 00-0.

Under 14

What an absolute cracker of an afternoon for football! Great contest in the first quarter with Colts keeping Buln down to two points. Great second quarter from Colts,4th quarter saw Buln join the board with goals but Colts came out on top with a 26 point win.
