50 years ago…

Buln Buln dropped from fourth to sixth after losing to Hallora-Strezlecki by eight points in a close clash. It sees the Lyrebirds fall out of the finals race, with limited time left to jump back in.

A dominant last quarter from the JUST Reds team has seen them claim the Warragul and District Basketball Associatio­n’s open section grand final on Saturday. They scored 14 goals to overrun their opponents.

Only six riders (five of the juniors) fronted up for the Warragul Cycling Club’s track meeting at the Warragul Velodrome this week.

25 years ago…

Longwarry upset the undefeated Pakenham in the under 17s WGFL competitio­n, with a dominant and accurate display in front of goal the difference in the match. However, the excitement was short lived for the Longwarry side, who fell to the Lions in the senior game by a whopping 179 points.

Ellinbank were the only club who will feature in all five grades of the EDNA in the finals. It’s a fantastic feat and they will go into next weeks finals as clear favourites.

10 years ago…

Nyora’s Cory and Corrie Wilson both had a day out for the Saints side in a 78-point win over Longwarry. The pair combined for nine goals, (Cory with 4, Corrie with 5) as the Saints drew within striking distance of the top five in the EDFL as the finals approached.

Matt Robinson and Beau Runnalls continued to fight it out for the honour of top goal kicker as the final rounds approach in the EDFL. Runnalls booted five goals, while Robinson snagged six in the dominant win over Ellinbank. His five majors see him sit on 77 goals for the season, but his counterpar­t Robinson is closing the gap quickly, currently sitting third with 69 goals, two adrift of Dusties forward Mike Santo who sits second to Runnalls on 71.

Trafalgar Cricket Club applied to move across from the WDCA to the Central Gippsland league, with a vote occurring a week later to see whether the move will be passed, and if so, whether they will be accepted.

Koo Wee Rup let a golden opportunit­y slip when they fell to Buln Buln in the A Grade netball by three goals. The Demons had the chance to jump into the final six, but a loss will see them have to win their final two games to guarantee a place in the finals.
