Liquor store develops new Warragul outlet

-

Liquor outlet Monacellars is coming to Warragul next year.

Principal of the family owned business headquartered at Morwell, Mario Monacella, said although there had been some delay in advancing plans due to COVID-19 he was expecting tenders for the building would be called about the end of this month.

The business that serves the wholesale market as well as the retail market with packaged wines, beer and spirits has bought land in Alfred St next to the BP service station.

Mr Monacella said It “took a while” to obtain a suitable site for the new premises in Warragul but now had all necessary approvals and was aiming for an opening next year of a “large format store”.

He said his intention was to use local builders and contractors.

Mr Monacella moved from Yinnar to live in Warragul about two years ago after completing renovations to a house in the town but the family’s connection has been a bit longer.

His children, now at university, previously attended St Paul’s Anglican Grammar School and played sport in Warragul at weekends.

Monacellars is also expanding to Korumburra where it hopes to open before Christmas.

The company was established in Morwell as a retail liquor business in 1991, later expanding to serve the wholesale market.

It now has a large warehouse and distribution centre at Morwell as well as two liquor outlets that will swell to four with the expansion to Warragul and Korumburra.

Mr Monacella said the Warragul facility was ideally located to service a large range of customers in the south-east of Melbourne as well as other parts of Gippsland.
