Virtual Fun Run gets underway

-

The Geoff Watt Virtual Fun Run began on Sunday, but it’s not to late to get your times in, with the event running through to October 31.

There have been some ambassadors jump on board this year as well to take part, with legendary marathon runner Steve Moneghetti already completing his run in his hometown of Ballarat over the weekend.

Alongside Steve, former marathon record older Derrick Clayton and running legend Charlene Rendina are also participating in the run this year.

Olympic heptathlete Glynis Nunn will be logging a time during the virtual event as will bronze medallist at the Tokyo Olympics Judy Pollock who will be walking the 10k event with some friends.

Maree Holland, Robert DeCastella and Australian race walker and Olympic gold medallist Jared Tallent are also on board logging a virtual time across the two weeks.

Rounding out the ambassadors is 1988 Seoul 400m gold medallist Debbie King (nee Flintoff) who was also one of the Olympic torch carriers during the Sydney games in 2000.

Runners are encouraged to dress up during their run, with prizes on offer in categories including family and friends, with pets, scenic, creative, fancy dress, video and story.

Event organiser Kathy Watt said it was fantastic to have many ambassadors on board and hoped many would get into the spirit and dress up for the event.

There will also be another award on offer, the Jayco Young Achievement Awards. They will be awarded to four talented athletes ( two female and two male) with two categories U18 and U25 from Gippsland Region who will receive help towards their athletic endeavours and an ASICS Gift pack.

To sign up for the event, you can visit www.geoffwattrun.com.au with entries open until October 31.
