Two men impersonate undercover police

-

Police are investigating two separate reports of men impersonating undercover police officers in Warragul and Drouin last week.

The two incidents occurred early in the morning on Tuesday and Wednesday, involving two men in a black Commodore station wagon.

Police are urging community members to ask for identification if they are approached from anyone claiming to be undercover police.

Senior sergeant Peter Shallard said if community members were approached by a member who was not in uniform and in an unmarked police car, they should ask for identification.

In the first incident at 5.30am on Tuesday, a woman was driving in North Rd, Warragul when she saw a vehicle with its headlights on parked in North Rd.

Shortly after the victim turned left into Albert Rd and the vehicle came up behind her with blue and red flashing lights flashing from inside the car.

Police said the woman thought it may be undercover police but was wary, and continued driving slowly along Albert Rd.

Police said the driver of the vehicle flashed the headlights at her, beeped the horn and turned the left indicator on and off several times.

As the woman started to pull over, the vehicle following drove around the victim with the driver holding the horn down and yelling.

A male passenger in the vehicle was described as in his early 20s, short dark hair and a slim face.

The vehicle continued towards Copelands Rd.

The following day, at 6.30am in Drouin, a man was on his scooter on his way to work.

Police said the man received a phone call from his employer so he pulled over at the roundabout at Walker Drv and Buln Buln Rd.

Whilst on the phone, the man saw a black VE or VY Holden station wagon came from the Warragul direction and stopped at the roundabout.

The man told police the car had red and blue flashing lights on the dash, in the back seat and in the driver’s hand.

Police said the driver and passenger told the victim they were undercover police and requested to speak with the victim’s boss.

As the victim approached the driver’s door and put his phone on loudspeaker, the driver allegedly grabbed the victim’s mobile phone and drove away along Walker Drv.

The victim described the men as 25 to 30years-old, Middle Eastern in appearance and wearing dark clothing. The passenger was wearing a green fluoro vest and neither men were wearing masks.
