Top tasting water

-

We might take it for granted but apparently a lot of effort goes into giving us a drink of tap water that tastes good.

The region’s water business Gippsland Water is awash with satisfaction after being named as providing some of the best tasting water in the State at the Victorian Water Industry Operators Association awards.

Only that which comes through the taps in the area supplied by Lower Murray Water was judged better than what Gippslanders turn to when a bit dry in the mouth.

The recognition added to a number of individual awards won by Gippsland Water staff.

Senior water treatment technician Dion Bull was named operator of the year and Michael Tulloch, employed at the Gippsland Water Factory, the junior operator of the year.

Earlier this year wastewater treatment operator Scott Kitwood received the WIOA Problem Accepted Solution Supplied (PASS) award for an innovative idea for taking samples at treatment lagoons.

And water quality technical officer Toby Spark has been named a finalist for the Intelligent Water Networks hydrovation challenge that encourages new ways of problem solving.

The winner is due to be announced shortly. A proud managing director of Gippsland Water Sarah Cumming congratulated the emploees on their achievements that, she said, reaffirmed the organisation’s status as a leader in the water industry.

“The awards they have received are testament to the team and their willingness to embrace change and new technologies”.

They acknowledge Gippsland Water’s focus on innovation and clever thinking and, in what’s been a year of unique challenges, transforming how we work in a positive way, Ms Cumming said.
