State funding for Children’s Week

-

Three local organisations will receive grants to host activities for Children’s Week starting on Saturday.

Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing announced Quantum Support Services, Baw Baw Shire Council and West Gippsland Libraries would receive grants of up to $1000 to host activities for children and their families during the annual festivities.

Thousands of children, aged up to 12-yearsold, are expected to take part in Children’s Week between October 24 to November 1.

Ms Shing said the Andrews Government was providing $100,000 to local communities across Victoria to host fun and free educational activities and events during the celebration.

The grants will go towards free activities such as online art exhibitions, outdoor or messy play activities, dance workshops, arts and crafts, musical and story-telling performances, drawing competitions and picnics.

“West Gippsland and Latrobe Valley councils and organisations have embraced the challenge to think creatively about how to host activities and events safely to engage children and their communities,” Ms Shing said.

The theme for Children’s Week 2020 celebrates the right of all children to choose their own friends and safely connect with others.

“Children’s Week is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the lives, talents and achievements of children, and not even a global pandemic can stop it,” Minister for Early Childhood Ingrid Stitt added.

The calendar of events was yet to be released late last week.
