Garfield

At last, finally we can put competition golf back on the agenda with Dan the man giving us the clearance to resume.

With better than average spring rains and plenty of sunshine and no usage the course has presented in superb condition with numerous maintenance works being completed during the shutdown. Thursday was the first comp day back with a field of 40 players facing the starter.

The fields for the week were slightly down due to the 25km travel limit still being imposed. Peter Johnson obviously a first up specialist had the day’s best round of 39 points playing off his mark of 20 to win the B Grade event by the one point over Mick Jusic and a further five points away in third position was Gary Kelly.

Gary Vitiritti got the job done for the major grade with a round of 36 points, bang on his handicap of 18, to defeat Ray James and Ron

Fielding who finished up in the minor placings. A total of five birdies were achieved by the field for the day and the ball run down went to those who scored 33 points or better.

On Saturday a good size field of 83 turned out with Steve Wallace having a day out with a great score of 41 points playing off his handicap of 17 to easily win the B Grade event by a clear margin of four points from Graham White and two points back to Darren Rae in third position. Craig Hobson beat his handicap of just nine to score 38 points winning A Grade by the two points over Doug Amos and a further point back to Evan Williams in third place.

Doug Amos scored an eagle three on the par five first, winning a total of 14 balls for his effort. A final score of 34 points or better was needed to win a ball down the line. A total of 10 birdies were achieved by the field for the day.

Mark Allen made the most of excellent golfing conditions on Saturday to shoot a rock solid seven-under 66, playing off scratch.

Proving that golf is a game for everyone of all ages, evergreen Mildred Lyon scored a fantastic 43 points to take out the women’s stableford event on the same day. Highlight of the day was seeing club professional Anthony Bambridge make the daily presentations in full Richmond regalia, having lost a Grand Final bet.
