Jindi too strong

- By Adam Johnson C Grade:

Jindivick 4/119 def Iona 10/109

A late flurry of wickets to Harrison Moore saw Iona dismissed for a below par total in their encounter with Jindivick.

Opting to bat first the Swamp Tigers were never quite able to get going despite handy starts from Luke Ferguson (21) and Luke Gilbert (15). Mick Tumino and Luke Hume turned the screws early, tying down the batsmen and breaking through regularly. Hume was typically economical snaring 2/17 off eight overs while Tumino also chimed in with 2/17 off eight.

With the batting line-up in disarray Moore stepped in to do the mopping up with the next five wickets falling for the addition of just 28 runs. Finishing with 4/19, Moore was the pick of the bowlers.

In reply, the Jumping Jacks were made to work hard for their runs, with Eddie McGillivray (28) anchoring the early part of the chase. With the score at 4/55 Iona probably felt they still had a chance but an unbeaten 64-run partnership from Jarratt Eastburn and Tumino soon put paid to any chances of an unlikely victory.

Eastburn led the charge finishing the day not out on 40 while Tumino capped a good allround performance with 22 not out. Sam Accardi was the best of the bowlers claiming 2/11 off four overs.

Neerim District 8/168(cc) drew Ellinbank 2/78 (28)

Untimely rain brought an end to play in the clash between Neerim District and Ellinbank.

Chasing a competitive total, the visitors got away to a good start with Jeremy Gray (37) and Stuart Davis (28*) putting on 50 for the second wicket.

Needing 91 to win at around 7.5 runs an over and with the experienced pair of Michael Pandolfo and Brad Berry still to bat the Eagles were poised to strike when the heavens opened. Earlier in the day Harry Sheehan was in great touch, pummelling the strike bowlers with 11 boundaries before eventually falling for 73.

Warren and Heath Darcy both reached double figures while a valuable 26 not out from skipper Jamie Gleeson helped the Stags see out their allotted overs. Berry (4/27) made the early breakthroughs while some composed bowling at the death saw William Auldist claim 2/6 off five overs with a maiden.

Warragul 1/31(7) drew Western Park 6/179(cc)

The second drawn match was an even contest between Warragul and Western Park.

Winning the toss and choosing to bat, the Warriors made a cautious start before Michael Rabl lifted the run rate with an attacking innings. Clearing the rope four times, Rabl raced away to 56 before hitting a return catch to the bowler. Fletcher Kennedy (22*) anchored the middle order and was well supported in the latter overs as Patrick Brooks (25) and Oscar Sheehan (21*) helped the visitors to reach a defendable total. Amandeep Singh claimed 2/23 to be the only multiple wicket taker. In reply, the Gulls were right on track as Amandeep Singh (23*) got things going in his usual fashion before the weather brought the game to an early conclusion.
