Dinner blows up

-

Barbecue season did not begin well for a Warragul woman who suffered minor burns after her gas barbecue exploded on Sunday night.

The woman was taken to West Gippsland Hospital and treated for minor burns after the barbecue exploded and ignited a fire at her unit in Lifestyle Village, Warragul.

With summer and barbecue season approaching, police said it was a timely reminder for all residents to check their barbecue and gas connections.

Police said the fire occurred just after 6pm when the woman attempted to light the gas barbecue and it exploded after she turned on the gas.

Surrounding residents in the village heard the explosion.

Police said the woman ran to a neighbouring unit for assistance.

The CFA attended and extinguished the fire. The explosion and fire caused damage to the unit and garage.

Police are investigating two burglaries at Yarragon businesses overnight last Tuesday night.

Offenders jemmied open the back door of Penny Worth O’Lollies to gain access to the Princes Hwy shop.

Police said the offender searched a number of areas but only a quantity of coins was stolen from a drawer.

In a similar incident, offenders jemmied a back door to gain access to Coco’s Café. Police said offenders searched through a cupboard but nothing was stolen.

On the same night in Trafalgar, offenders smashed the front door of Eat Live Fresh café in Contingent St.

Police said while the smashed window created a hole large enough for someone to enter, it did not appear anyone entered the shop.

Police said it was possible the offender was disturbed and left the scene.
