Warragul Camera Club Club Notes...

-

On Monday, November 2 Warragul Camera Club members attended the October meeting on a Zoom link and saw the Warragul Camera Club’s monthly competition for the subject– “Landscape” - a photograph of natural scenery with land and sky-based elements displayed in a pictorial fashion. A total of 83 images were judged.

Mike Moore was the competition steward and David Woodcock directed the digital processes to bring the monthly meeting and the presentation of the images to the club’s members on Zoom and on the website.

Mike Moore relayed one of the judge’s comments: many entries did not meet the criteria of the definition and members will receive a report of all comments of the landscape photos that were judged. All the images are now available to the public to view as a slide show on the club’s website home page.

The images were judged and appraised by guest judge Ken Bretherton. Ken’s interest in photography began a lot later than for many photographers. In 2010 Ken and his wife went on a Kimberley cruise and on board were three professional landscape photographers.

Ken fell in love with the images he saw and decided to give it a go. As a result, his photographic journey has been entirely within the digital era with no exposure to analogue techniques.

Landscape photography is his favourite, but also enjoys photographing wildlife.

Ken and his wife are members of the Melbourne Camera Club, and have travelled extensively – to Japan, Iceland, Patagonia Bolivia and Antarctica. They have been influenced by a Scottish photographer – Bruce Percy – who specialises in minimalist landscapes using a film camera.

Competition results:

Digital A B&W: 1st Bruce Langdon, 2nd Paul Robinson 3rd Greg Mitchell, HC: Geoff Croucher.

Digital colour: 1st Robyn Wright, 2nd Carol Monson, 3rd Christina Robinson, HC: Bruce Langdon, David Woodcock (2).

Digital creative: 1st Wilma Meirmans, 2nd Paul Robinson, 3rd Christina Robinson.

President Bruce Langdon thanked the members for joining the new interest groups, and for good attendance. He also reminded all to follow the health guidelines for outings and to keep safe.

The dates for the interest groups’ meetings are displayed in the club’s calendar online.

The interest groups are good for education and training and we should not let them diminish. Last month’s outing was a week-long affair, hosted by Ron Paynter who presented an AV of participating members’ Photos of Freedom. Bruce reminded members to please return the perpetual trophies for December’s award presentations.

The club held a Men with Heart project in conjunction with Melbourne Camera Club, on November 5 via YouTube; a Photoshop tutorial with Ron Paynter on Zoom; final results and presentation of the Gippsland Interclub competition hosted by Latrobe Valley Camera Club, on Zoo. There is a possible outing to Mount Worth late November.

Next meeting will be December 7 on Zoom and will be an informal festive evening, awards for Image of the Year presentations and members are encouraged to dress up for the occasion, though it is not person to person.

It is also the deadline for monthly competition’s digital entries of “High Key”. The January 2021 meeting will be attended by competition judge Lynne Haywood live on Zoom.

Meetings are held the first Monday each month and will be presented online for members to view. For further information, phone the membership manager on 0413 025 949, or visit the club website www.warragulcameraclub.org
