Activities on offer during youth week

-

Baw Baw’s young people are invited to be creative, be inspired, be active, try new things and face-off with fellow gamers in a range of free activities during Youth Week.

A highlight will be the NBA 2K20 online tournament on Friday, with the winner to take home a $250 EB Games voucher, with a $100 voucher for the runner-up – all you need to enter is a PS4 and internet access.

Baw Baw Street Games will host a series of free, fun and supervised games and activities for teenagers and young adults at Trafalgar, Yarragon, Drouin and Warragul.

Locations include James Balfour Park today from 3.15pm to 4.15pm; Yarragon skatepark today from 5pm to 6pm; Drouin skatepark on Friday from 3.15pm to 4.15pm; and Warragul skatepark on Friday from 5pm to 6pm.

Today will also offer budding yogis the chance to learn the ropes with a basics flow yoga class in Warragul, while those keen to get the heart rate going can join a Cycle RPM class at Warragul Leisure Centre.

Learn the ancient art of Tai Chi at the Warragul Leisure Centre or get Zen with yin yoga and meditation on Thursday.

Young female athletes will be inspired by AFLW players Sharni

Layton and Aliesha Newman in a three-week personal coaching workshop covering leadership, community and health.

A range of creative pursuits are catered for with an online lino-cut workshop (materials delivered, no experience required), character workshop for young animators and music production workshops with local DJ Lua Hartig.

Baw Baw Shire Council has partnered with the YMCA, Gippsport, Streetgames, Yoga-Life Warragul, Helen Timbury, Arts and Health Gippsland and West Gippsland Libraries to deliver this jampacked program of online and inperson events.

Each event is free and open to any Baw Baw resident between the ages of 12 and 25.

“Whether you are into art, sport, gaming or mindfulness, Youth Week has something to offer everyone this year,” Baw Baw Shire CEO Mark Dupe said.

“Get your friends together and have a go at something new – whether you want to practice mindfulness and meditation or dial up the noise as Baw Baw’s next DJ, you are sure to find a free event that grabs your interest.”

Bookings are required for most events. Head to bawbawshire.vic.gov.au/youthweek for details.
