Warragul Bowling Club had a bad start to the WGBD pennant season on Saturday with all three teams losing.

Division one: Warragul lost to Drouin 83/100.

John Vickerman, Norm Dickson, Jim Power and Bill Clappers (s) defeated Mark Atkinson’s team 26/23. Ian Belling, David Ferguson, Peter Gallasch and Graeme Davis (s) lost to Sheryl Atkinson’s team 18/25. David Alderman, Ken Scammell, Paul Simmons and Janette Gallasch (s) defeated Mark Leighton’s team 23/20. Des Stephens, Pat Hammond, David Smith and Lindsay Soutter (s) lost to Toby Wallace’s team 16/32.

Division three: Warragul (2) lost to Boolarra 56/113.

Ted Holland, Ken Landman, Kerrie Currie and David Gatewood (s) lost to Bob Allen’s team 6/45. Bill Clark, Ken Brown, Brian Kennedy and Noel Rubenstein (s) defeated Darren Napier’s team 21/19. Russ Carrick, Linda McCoy, Peter Handley and Elsie Hefford (s) defeated Terry Parker’s team 21/15. Bernie McIntosh, Brian Barby, Marg Keeffe and Bob Currie (s) lost to Russ Peters’ team 8/34.

Division four: Warragul (3) lost to Newborough (3) 73/108.

Ray Headspeath, May Baldwin, John Bell and Barry Downer (s) lost to J. Edwards’ team 13/37. Glenda Collins, Keith Wilkins, Darren McDonald and Lester Mason (s) defeated D. Policha’s team 23/22. Jean Kydd, Mike Cousens, Chris Wilkins and Roy Hammond (s) lost to C. Cadby’s team 18/25. Michael Royce, Peter Howlett, Alan Potter and David Piggin (s) lost to M. Holroyd’s team 19/24.

In round two of WGBD pennant on Saturday, Warragul division one is away to Traralgon RSL, division three is home to Traralgon and division four is home to Trafalgar.

Women’s pairs final

The final of the women’s championsh­ip pairs final was played on Sunday with Janette Gallasch (s) and Elsie Hefford taking on Shirley Melsen (s) and Gabrielle Draisma.

Shirley and Gabrielle got off to a flyer and led 8/0 after four ends. Janette and Elsie got moving, scoring two, one and five on the next three ends to level at 8/8.

The next four ends were shared before Janette and Elsie got two twos to lead 16/10. Shirley and Gabrielle got two twos of their own on the next two ends to tighten it back to 14/16.

When Janette and Elsie got four on the 16th end, Shirley and Gabrielle knew it would be very difficult to bridge the gap.

The last two ends were shared as Janette and Elsie secured a seven-shot win in the final.
