Gavin stars for Warriors
Captain Alex Gavin was the star of the day as Western Park took control against Catani.
Winning the toss and batting, the Warriors got off to a consistent start as Gavin strode the crease, before he took to the Catani attack, blasting 87 on a very slow outfield to give his side the box seat. Elliot Kennedy (30) also proved boundaries aren’t everything, making 30 without a one to push Western Park to 9221. For the Blues, skipper Danny Brewster (265) and Leigh Jose (2-35) proved to be the pick of the bowlers.
Ellinbank 232 vs Yarragon
A topsy-turvy day has seen Ellinbank make four ducks, but still lead after day one of their clash with Yarragon on the weekend. After being surprisingly sent in after losing the toss, Stuart Davis (49) and Liam Lisle (31) put the Eagles on top, before a middle-order collapse spurred by Jake Green (6-69) threatened to derail the innings. However, a ferocious knock by Tom Robertson late in the day turned the game on its head, the former A-grade cricketer making 79 in quick time to push Ellinbank to 232 and give the Panthers a daunting task next week.
Neerim-District 8/143 vs Garfield-Tynong A slow day of cricket has seen GarfieldTynong’s tight-bowling reward them with ascendency on the weekend.
Batting first, the Stags couldn’t grab major contributions from any of their batsmen, as they crawled their way to 8-143 by the close of play. With the ball, the Titans bowled twenty maidens, as Phill Young (3-37) and Will Pickering (2-7) proved to be the most penetrating, as their wickets slowed the run-rate and gave Garfield-Tynong strong momentum heading into next week.
