Residents accuse council of spin

-

Residents in Rulemont Rd, Warragul have disputed Baw Baw Shire claims that works to repair potholes have been undertaken.

Frustrated residents recently took to signwriting on a bad section of road to reinforce calls for roadworks.

Council responded to Gazette inquiries to say potholes on Rulemont Rd between Bona Vista Rd and Cason Cres had been repaired.

After a story in The Gazette, residents told The Gazette council had possibly used some “spin” in its description of the works.

“All they did was paint over the yellow graffitied warnings around said holes and cracks, they have not carried out any repairs whatsoever,” The Gazette was told.

But, with further questioning, council stood firm, saying it repaired potholes on this section of road on October 22 in response to three customer requests submitted between October 7 and 19 October.

Community infrastructure director Cohen Van der Velde said since these repairs, council had received no further pothole repair requests.

“The road was subject to graffiti around Melbourne Cup Day. Council’s road maintenance contractor DM Roads has removed this graffiti.

“Further repairs to the road surface may be considered as part of council’s annual budget process,” he said.

Mr Van der Velde encouraged residents to report road maintenance issues on 1300 229 229, through council’s website or the Snap Send Solve app, so they can be actioned appropriately.
