Neerim finish strongly

Neerim District had a strong 43shot win in division five on Saturday.

With the division two side having a bye, Neerim District played at home against Traralgon RSL in division five. After close scores across the board at the halfway mark, it was the home team who finished strongly.

Division two: Neerim District won by forfeit.

Division five: Neerim District defeated Traralgon RSL (3) 98/55.

Trevor Kuhnell (skip), Stephen Halligan, Ray Throup and Des Pelly defeated Joseph Ward’s team 25/18.

The game was close early, with Neerim up by one after six ends. RSL started to edge ahead and led by three after 11 ends, holding that margin up to the 18th end.

Neerim finished off strongly, winning six of the last seven ends, including two threes, to win by seven shots.

Ray Watts (skip), Russell Meehan, Gerald Winter and Graeme Wingrove defeated Margret Morley’s team 32/21.

RSL started strongly led 10/1 after seven ends and 16/6 after the 12th (2) end. Neerim finally got down to business and trailed by just three on the 18th end. A six and a seven on consecutiv­e ends gave Neerim a 10-shot lead. RSL clawed back three over the next three ends but Neerim finished off well to win by 11 shots.

Pat Fraser-Aurisch (skip), Jim Schroedrer, George Rymer and Roger Till defeated Elaine Muir’s team 41/16.

Neerim were impressive from the start, up 6/0 after three, 11 up after eight ends and 20 up after 13 ends. From then, both teams alternated ends. A five to Neerim on the 22nd end allowed them to cruise to a 25shot win.

Midweek

Neerim District had a narrow fourshot loss at home against Morwell Club on Tuesday.

Division two: Neerim District lost to Morwell Club (2) 60/64.

Pat Fraser-Aurisch (skip), Kay Cousins, Russell Meehan and Des Pelly lost to Leeane Broadbent’s team 14/25.

Neerim was in big strife early, down 0/15 on the seventh end. They finally kicked into action, winning five ends in a row to trail by seven. The margin was still seven on the 16th end but Morwell Club finished slightly stronger to win by 11 shots.

Maureen “Cookie” Halligan (skip), Thelma Schroeder, Gerald Winter and John Rochford lost to Betty Burridge’s team 16/30.

Neerim won the first two ends before Morwell Club unleashed a run of six ends that included a four and a seven to lead 18/4. By the 13th end, Morwell Club led by 18 shots. Neerim hung in and outscored Morwell Club over the last seven ends but went down by 14 shots.

Karren Sheers (skip), Marion Willis, Neville Cousins and Stephen Halligan defeated Norma Tyrer’s team 30/9.

The game was close early, with Neerim leading 6/4 on the sixth end. Neerim started to take control, picking up a five on the ninth end and a four on the 13th end to lead 21/5. Morwell Club picked up four in the next three ends but Neerim won the last five ends for a comfortabl­e 21-shot win.
