Barrand smashes brutal hundred

- By Joel Batson Division 3:

Ellinbank 7/257 v Neerim District

A magnificent, brutal century to Matt Barrand has seen Ellinbank amass a monster score over Neerim on the weekend.

After falling to 6-52, with Marc Tymkin (394) and Cam Law (2-45) doing the early damage, Barrand and Tom Robertson (52) set about launching an extraordinary counterattack and the Stags had no reply. The pair added 115 runs in no time at all to shock Neerim at their adopted home of Drouin Rec and once Robertson was gone, the torture didn’t relent. Lucas Plozza (30) was able to come in and provide a continuation of the slaughter, offering support for Barrand as the right-hander finished not out on 114, a score that changed the match and all but hand Ellinbank the six points, as they made 7-257. Yarragon 147 v Catani 1/9

A typically tight bowling performance from Catani’s experienced group saw them restrict Yarragon all day away from home. Losing the toss, Catani were not afraid to bowl, keeping their terrific record of the last two seasons going as they toiled hard all day.

C McDonald (30) and Dan Van de Burgt (27) poked and prodded the Panthers forward in the match, but the likes of Scott May (3-46) and Matt Coleman (2-12) eliminated any momentum that Yarragon gathered, as the home side crawled to 147 all out. In reply, Catani lost a key wicket early to Jake Green (1-8) as the away side concluded the day at 19.

Western Park 126 v Garfield-Tynong 1/10 A strong Garfield-Tynong bowling unit has seen them take a strong position into next week.

Bowling first on a batting-friendly Western Park ground, the Titans found resistance from Sam “Fish” Cheeseman (46) early, the lefthander looking threatening with an array of strokes, however, a lack of support from the other end proved to be the Warriors undoing.

Phill Young claimed three scalps for the away side, whilst two runouts proved costly for the home side as they crumbled to 126 all out. In reply, the Titans lost an early wicket to be 1-10 at the close of play, with it all to play for next week.
