Cycling skill sessiions

-

A junior mountain bike skills session on Monday will kick start Ride Nation Gippsland’s summer activities.

Ride Nation is excited to begin the year with four cycling programs aimed at growing the cycling network within the Baw Baw Shire.

On offer throughout January and February will be school holiday mountain bike and track cycling skills programs for juniors and social rides for any age and ability.

The two-hour mountain bike session on Monday is designed for kids aged between eight and 16 years with a focus on teaching participants how to ride correctly, safely and smoothly with full control in a mountain bike setting.

“The mountain bike is a great place to start to learn to ride a bike,” Ride Nation cycling coach Brenton Jones said. “It provides children with a safe off-road environment to gain the skills and confidence on the bike while having fun in the process. I want every kid to enjoy the trails that our region has to offer and Rokeby is a great place to start.”

Ride Nation Gippsland will also offer a four week after-school junior mountain bike skills program during term one, beginning on Thursday, February 4.

For kids looking to learn the art of track cycling, the Warragul Cycling Club will run an eight week after-school junior track cycling skills program, beginning on Monday, February 1.

The junior track program has been successfully running under the guidance of club coach Ross Henry for several years. It is aimed to teach participants the necessary skills to ride in a velodrome, including core strength, pedalling technique and balance.

Australia Day social rides will see a number of ride options for the road cycling enthusiast, with ride choices for beginners through to the more seasoned rider.

All rides on Tuesday, January 26 will start and finish at the Warragul Velodrome and conclude with coffee and light brunch.
