Relaxed environment to overcome speaking fear

-

“Grandma is turning 80 today, and as her eldest son, I have been asked to say a few words…ummm…”

If this has happened to you or you have a fear of public speaking, then the Warragul Toastmasters Club may be your answer.

Club members make public speaking fun.

From a serious practice talk for a job interview through to a ridiculous one about “how often is meeting for coffee acceptable” - participants will find a pathway that suits them.

The group meets every Thursday, either by Zoom or in person, at 88 Smith St, Warragul.

The first meeting of the year will be held this Thursday from 7pm to 9pm.

President Terry Barridge said group members have similar goals in mind - to improve speaking and leadership skills .

He said members practice speaking in public, either for big events, such as work conferences, or in some cases, just for gaining confidence to give a speech at a wedding or party.

Members range from farmers, housewives, retirees to those from the corporate world.

Mr Barridge said there was no pressure on members and it was a very non-judgmental environment.

There is no pressure at Warragul Toastmasters , we are totally non-judgmental.

Community members can go along to observe (in person or via Zoom) or try their hand at a short impromptu speech.

“You will be given great feedback and will be amazed at how fast your speaking confidence will grow.

“We have had members in the club for 15 years, and some who just come for a short time to sharpen their skills,” Mr Barridge said.

Toastmasters is International
