Glen helps side to day one win
Garfield-Tynong 3/120 v Hallora 84 Garfield-Tynong has turned their struggling form around, annihilating Hallora in one of the most one-sided first day’s you will see.
Losing the toss and fielding, the Titans showed no mercy with the ball as Daniel Glen (4-19) proved his worth with a stunning display of bowling. Brayden Ridler (3-2) chipped in with a short but fiery spell, as Hallora never stood a reasonable chance, the visitors only able to muster 84 in the heat.
Lachie Pratt (31) showed his class with a fighting knock, however he wasn’t as successful with the ball, as Titan skipper Matthew Dodman took the attack to his foe. The graceful left-hander stroked the ball to all parts as he finished the day 69 not out, as GarfieldTynong passed the required total in a canter, finishing the day 3-120.
Catani 1/53 v Longwarry 83
A red-hot Catani has decimated Longwarry, leaving them within arms-reach of claiming six points (and maybe more) next week.
Losing the toss and being forced to field in the scorching heat, Catani’s bowlers were up to the task all day, restricting the Crows to a crawl for the entire innings.
Tyler Molloy (2-6) and Mitch Gregson (2-14) did the job with the new ball, before Josh Miller (2-7), Josh Bethune (2-12) and James Vela (2-20) cleaned up the rest of the order, as Longwarry wilted to 83 all out.
Dom Pullen (27) was the only batsmen to provide any sort of resistance, as Catani took full control- Ross Douglas (33*) dominated with the bat to leave Catani 1-53 in their chase, all but assuring victory.
Drouin 5/117 v Jindivick 90
Drouin has dominated their opening day against Jindivick, claiming an early six points despite a rare off day from star man Sam Wyatt.
The Hawks benefitted greatly by Mitch Goodwin’s infusion into the side, the rightarm pacemen stunning the struggling Jumping Jacks as he claimed four early wickets to destroy Jindivick’s top-order. Mitch Smith (3-23) chipped in once again in support, as did Nic Caddy (2-11), as Jindivick fell apart to be all out for 90.
In reply, an unbelievable spell from Harrison Moore (3-40) gave Jindivick hope of a miracle, as Drouin lost a bundle of wickets to be 4-7, as the game took a dramatic twist. Luckily for the home side, Daniel Barrand (39*) and Mitch Smith (32*) were able to steady the ship, raising the score to 5-117 with the help of 30 extras, setting up a potential outright next week.
Western Park 3/31 v Iona 126
After a completely one-sided first session, Iona fought back hard to leave their match with Western Park in the balance. Batting first on a reasonable Western Park deck, the Swamp Tigers had no answer for the Warrior opening pair of Dave Burn and Kyle Baker. Burn, in his long-awaited return, had the ball talking, taking 5-36 to blow away the potent Iona attack.
Baker, on the other hand, used his youth to his advantage, steaming in from the other end to take terrific figures of 4-24 as Iona slipped to 9-76. With the end of the innings and defeat imminent, Iona needed rear-guard action- and received it from Kieran Lenders (39), who provided a 50-run last-wicket stand with Lachlan Howard (11*) to give his side a much-needed boost.
With 12 overs to bat, the Warriors did not fare well, as Wade Haysom (2-11) took key wickets, including that of Jason Batson (whose knock was described as “spineless” by a fellow, anonymous teammate). The away side finished at 3-31.
