Take a bow, Liam

- By Adam Johnson Division 5:

Garfield-Tynong 96 def by Longwarry 6/100 A best on ground performance from Liam Bow has given Longwarry its second victory over Garfield-Tynong this season.

Sent into the field by the home side, Longwarry chipped away at the Titans with regular wickets making it hard for the batsmen to get going.

A handful of starts helped get runs on the board early before a collapse of 5/14 saw the combine bundled out after 35 overs. Jett Pickering was the pick of the bowlers snaring 3/15 off eight overs which included four maidens. Liam Bow 3/18 and Liam Quarrell 3/8 challenged for the bowling honours. In reply, it was Pickering and Bow who lead the charge with bat in hand after a horror start that saw the Crows lose 3/23. Pickering (23) departed at 4/26, leaving Bow to pick up the pieces.

With support from Josh Evans and Harry Stephens, Bow (38 n.o.) steered the visitors to a hard-fought win. Darren Roberts caused headaches for the Longwarry top order finishing with 4/17 off eight overs.

Iona 102 defeated Warragul 89

Iona have pulled off a stunning win over Warragul, defending a meagre total to take the points. Sent into bat by the Gulls the home side made a positive start with Scott Hoare posting 28.

Troy Hemming and Michael Scully nudged the ball around with both batsmen reaching double figures, putting the Swamp Tigers in a reasonable position. The wheels fell off not long after however as they lost 6/19 to be all out with a score just into triple figures.

Erin MacFarlane did the bulk of the damage with figures of 4/28. Vaneet Singh chimed in with a tidy 2/12 and Jagsir Singh snared 2/13 on debut for the Gulls.

In reply, the visitors were left shell shocked as none of their top six could muster even a double figure score. Jagsir Singh finally got things going with 28 but without support it wasn’t enough as Iona stormed to victory. Sam Accardi did the job with the new ball claiming 3/19 while Joel Bain tidied up with 4/20. Hallora 117 lost to Bunyip 3/118 A devastating opening spell from Adam Barton gave Bunyip the upper hand in their clash with Hallora.

Choosing to bat first, the home side was left in tatters as Barton (4/17) got the Kookaburra talking. In trouble at 5/36, Kangas skipper Daniel Sell looked to steer his side out of trouble striking five boundaries and two sixes on his way to 45.

Darren Humphrey (20) tried to keep the momentum going but was run out. Ben Sharpe (2/43) and Callum Tyler (2/30) kept the pressure on late in the innings.

In reply, the Bulls were unfazed after losing a couple of early wickets as Tyler went on the attack. Regularly finding the boundary with eight fours and clearing it twice, Tyler (61) and Jerry Whibley quickly reduced the deficit as they put on 47 for the third wicket. After Tyler’s departure the visitors were only 14 runs in arrears which Whibley (27 n.o.) expertly negotiated. Darren Humphrey copped some stick before finishing with 2/32.
