Marathon ready

-

The sixth annual Hallora marathon is set to take off once again, with a new start date confirmed.

The marathon was originally set to take place on December 13, but with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, organisers made the call to postpone the event.

Organiser Daniel Pratt said a March date was floated, however the early start time meant runners would begin in the dark, so February 14 was settled on.

It is planned the event will return to the normal December timeslot later in the year.

Running was one of the key pastimes for many during lockdown, with Mr Pratt noticing an uptake in interest this year.

“I think even in the last week we’ve had a bit of a surge in people signing up. We have around 70 already, so we’ve had great interest. It’s tough to gauge six weeks out, even I’m someone who signs up late usually,” he laughed.

This year’s route will follow the same as 2019, with runners setting off from Hallora weaving their way into Warragul and beyond.

There will be a distance for everyone, with runners able to sign up to race in the full marathon, or the 24, 16, eight and five kilometre events on the day.

After raising $7,500 in last year’s event, the committee is aiming to raise $10,000 this year for the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. Runners and supporters, able to donate via the website or links that can be found on the Facebook page.

Each participant will receive a medal and their time which is tracked digitally.

Runners can register by visiting https://halloramarathon.org.au/
