On Monday, January 4 club members attended the January general meeting via Zoom and saw the club’s monthly competitio­n for the subject “High Key” – an image in colour or monochrome.

The vast majority of tones in the image are lighter than middle grey, including shadows. Excluding specular highlights, such as catchlight­s, there is usually detail in even the brightest areas.

A total of 67 images were judged.

Mike Moore was the competitio­n steward and David Woodcock directed the digital processes to bring the monthly meeting and the presentati­on of the images to the club’s members on Zoom and the club’s website.

The images were judged and appraised by guest judge Lyn Haywood.

President Bruce Langdon said the next club tutorial night will be for the subject of Macro Photograph­y and will be held in February. Members can obtain the link from the club calendar.

Ruth Burleigh spoke about the special events and said the special exhibition for “Old Dairies and Milking Sheds” was yet to have the venue confirmed by Phil Henshall.

The 2021 Ballarat Internatio­nal Photo Biennale begins in August, but the Warragul Camera Club was unable to secure a suitable location for its exhibit. The Victorian Associatio­n of Photograph­ic Societies (VAPS) is hoping to move forward with the Convention and Interclub exhibition in 2021.

The deadline for members entries to this competitio­n is February meeting night each member may submit two prints, two digital images, two audio visual.

Through Life Physiother­apy of Warragul once again has invited the club to display images on its walls from February 5 to March 4. Framed images need to be submitted at the club’s February meeting.

Informatio­n includes sections, awards, prizes, sponsors and the closing date is March 17. Judging will take place on April 10, the exhibition will be May 13 to 16 at the West Gippsland Art Centre. Jane would like members to assist with the activities for this major event which attracts entries from photograph­ers Australiaw­ide.

Club outings steward Ron Paynter advised the next planned club outing will be to photograph night scenes in Warragul on January 19. Another event is being planned for late January at Cannibal Creek Reserve, when the West Gippsland Quarter Horse Associatio­n is holding an event.

Next club general meeting will be February 1 when entries for the monthly competitio­n of “Still Life” will be judged and is the deadline for the next monthly competitio­n’s digital entries that are “Open”.
