Graziotin wastes no time in chase

- By Nathan Weatherhead Division 6:

Buln Buln 61 def by Drouin 0/68

Drouin has taken little time to defeat Buln Buln in rainy conditions at Buln on Saturday.

After winning the toss and deciding to bat, the Lyrebirds fell victim to Ash Norton (4/11) who ripped through the order to continue his good form this season. He was supported by Gavin Mills (3/15) and Duane Lucas (2/10) as Buln found themselves all out for the low score of 68.

Sometimes smaller targets can be tricky to chase, but Remo Graziotin wasn’t leaving anything to chance. He smashed a quick half century to see his side home by 10 wickets in just 11 overs, his aggressive approach seeing him finish with 50*, well supported at the other end by Jamie Lehmann who anchored the pair for a patient 13*.

Yarragon 8/82 def by Catani 2/89

Some tight bowling from Catani has helped them defeat a stoic Yarragon side at home on the weekend.

Batting first, Panthers’ opener Carlo Ierfone raced out of the blocks, hitting five fours on his way to 32 before finding Ross Kortholt in the field.

His wicket saw the side go from 3/50 to 8/79 quickly thanks to Ben Coleman (2/5) and Robert Coupe’s (2/10) stifling bowling display, restricting Yarragon to 8/82 from their 35 overs.

As Braydon Hall strode out to the crease, his intentions were clear from ball one. His fast paced 54 ensured his side wasn’t going to be beaten.

After Hall fell, Coleman followed, but it wasn’t enough for Yarragon as Joseph Dalgleish finished off the run chase to remain unbeaten on 12, despite a nice spell from Chameera Vithnage who finished with 1/5 from two overs.

Neerim District 4/125 def Longwarry 7/120 Neerim have used a balanced batting attack to help chase down Longwarry’s total in swift fashion away from home.

Joseph Sheehan (39), Brad Drews (35) and Brett Bransgrove (27) anchored the Neerim innings as they chased down the total of 120 in 20 overs.

The Longwarry bowlers battled hard all afternoon to try and restrict the Neerim batsmen, with Erin Maxwell picking up 1/17 from five overs, while Natalie Holmes, Russell

Maxwell and Pawan Kumar also picked up a wicket each.

Earlier on in the day, Longwarry were able to start well thanks to openers Maxwell (25) and Holmes (18) who played patient innings to start.

Corey Lewis then helped the Crows pick up the run rate with a timely 25 before being given out LBW to Aaron Alister. Amar Singh also chipped in with 17 runs late in the innings to help them post 7/120 from their 35 overs.

Brad Drews laid claim to player of the match points snaring 2/17 to go with his 35 with the willow, while Sam Ladds was the other multiple wicket taker, finishing with 2/28 in the Neerim victory.

Western Park 2/78 drew Ellinbank

Western Park have shared the points with Ellinbank in a match that was ended early due to rain.

Players did their best to stay out on the park at Lardner, but persistent showers saw play called early with Western Park sitting at 2/78 after 17 overs, with Jason Helps and Phillip Conley the wicket takers for Ellinbank on a day that might have been for either side.

Under 16s

Neerim District/Jindivick 7/83 def Longwarry/Catani 5/82

Only one match was able to be played in the under 16s on Saturday, with the rest falling victim to the weather.

Neerim District/Jindivick were able to get out at Kydd-Park Reserve and made sure they came home with a win.

After Longwarry/Catani won the toss and elected to bat, it looked like a decision that would pay off as Jayden Vela whacked an impressive 25* before retiring.

However, some tight bowling from Flynn Pearson (3/5) stopped the side in their tracks and restricted them to 5/82.

In reply, Sam Fusinato and Patrick Sheehan set to work, putting on a quick 26 before Fusinato (12) was run out.

Sheehan continued on though and paced the innings with his 21, while Carter Davis (19) chipped in as well.

They looked to be cruising home, until a devastating spell from James Comley (4/8) almost turned the match on its head.

However, Neerim/Jindivick steadied and managed to chase down the total in 18.3 overs and secure the victory, finishing 7/83.
