Award to Angus
Service to the management of Gippsland’s water resources, agriculture, the environment and sport by Angus Hume were recognised when he was made a Member of in the General Division of the Order of Australia (AM) in today’s Australia Day honours.
Mr Hume of Inverloch was widely known through the region for his work with numerous organisations and groups.
He is currently chair of the Victorian Catchment Management Council and the Our Catchment Our Communities strategic review group and a director of Southern Rural Water.
Mr Hume has also served as a chair, member and chief executive officer of the West Gippsland Catchment Management Authority, is a previous chair of the Thomson River Environment Flows Taskforce and of the Avon River Streamflow Management Plan consultative committee, East Gippsland CMA and Hawkesbury Nepean Catchment Management Board.
A dairy farmer and apiculturist in South Gippsland since 1985 he had a keen interest in the advancement of sport in the region and was appointed by the AFL as in the inaugural chairman of its Gippsland Commission, a position he held from 2012 to 2014.
He has served as a director and company secretary of Rural Counselling Finance Service Victoria, executive officer of the Australian Milk Harvesting Program, director and company secretary of GippsDairy Regional Dairy Board and a director of Agribusiness Gippsland.
Mr Hume has been an adviser to a Federal Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry and held a manager position in the Victorian Department of Primary Industries for five years.
