Division 2 Neerim District defeated Drouin (2)

Neerim District Bowling Club played at home against Drouin (2) and had a solid win of 115 to 75 with all 4 rinks getting up.

Peter Throup (skip), Pat FraserAuri­sch, Karren Sheers and Gerry Engelstad defeated Necip Akarsu’s team 26 to 19. Neerim led 4 nil after 3 ends but Drouin were soon back in the mix and from then on neither team could make a break. Scores were level on the 9th, 11th, 16th and 21st ends.

Finally Neerim got the break scoring a 4 and a 6 on successive ends to lead by 10. Drouin won the last two ends but it was Neerim by seven.

Trevor Kuhnell (skip), Peter Brooks, Tony Thornton and Rob Cook defeated Stephen Barr’s team 37 to 20. Neerim powered away from the start and with the aid of a six were up 14 to one on the 5th end. Neerim continued to dominate and were up 19/ 3 on the 9th end and 28/ 9 on the 15th end. The last 10 ends saw both teams trading ends with Drouin managing to cut the margin by two with Neerim winning by 17 shots.

Ray Watts (skip), Ross Pollard, Jim Fallon and Colin McKay defeated Col Jeffery’s team 30 to 16. Neerim started well with the Neerim skip bowling superbly and by the 9th end led 20 to nil having picked up a four and a five along the way. Play then started to even out with Drouin starting to win ends and a five on the 19th end cut the margin to 17. Drouin won the last four ends with the final margin being 14.

Neil Adams (skip), Angus McGillivra­y, Chris Hogan and Roger Till defeated David Tayles team 22 to 20. Drouin jumped out to a six nil lead after five ends and led 10 to two on the 8th end. A five to Neerim got them back in touch but Drouin eased ahead again. Three good ends to Neerim had the scores level at 13 all but Drouin eased ahead again by four. Neerim hit the lead for the first time on the 21st end but scores were then tied on the penultimat­e end. Neerim got a two to take the honours.

Division 5 Neerim District defeated by Traralgon (5)

Neerim District Bowling Club (2) played away against Traralgon (5) and lost 55 to 70 with the heat affecting some players on both sides.

Russell Meehan (skip), Greg Bond, Gerald Winter and Graeme Wingrove lost to Jim Goodwin’s team 16 to 20. It was singles for the first 6 ends with Traralgon up five to one. Neerim then won six of the next seven ends to lead 11 to 8. Traralgon responded with their run of six ends to lead 18 to 11. Neerim won the next four to get within two but singles to Traralgon on the last two ends gave them a four shot win.

Stephen Halligan (skip), John Rochford, Ray Throup and Des lost to Jan Moody’s team 19 to 28. A disastrous start for Neerim saw them down 12 nil on the 6th end. Neerim fought it out to the end and won the last six ends including a six to go down by just nine shots.

Jim Schroeder (skip), George Rymer, Wes Ellis and Neville Cousins lost to (2)

Ronald Hales’ team 20 to 22. Neerim started well and were up eight to three on the 7th end and 15 to five on the 13th end. Neerim held the 10 shot lead up to the 20th end but Traralgon came home strongly winning the last five ends and a four on the last end gave them a two shot win.

Midweek Division 2 Neerim District defeated Yinnar

Neerim District Bowling Club played at home against Yinnar and won 65 to 45.

Pat Fraser-Aurisch (skip), Di Tame, Kay Cousins and Gerry Engelstad defeated Jo Bolch’s team 24/ 11. The first five ends were even until Neerim won four straight picking up nine shots. Neerim then won seven shots over the next three ends to lead 19/9 on the 16th end. Neerim then won four of the last five ends to run out 13 shot winners.

Cookie Halligan (skip), Thelma Schroeder, Russell Meehan and Jim Schroeder drew with Jennifer Harris’ team 19 all. Neerim dropped a five on the first end but then got back within one but Yinnar kicked away to lead by seven on the eighth end. Neerim fought back with three threes and a four to hit the front by 2 on the 17th end which they held on the 19th end, but Yinnar picked up singles on the last two ends to draw the game.

Karren Sheers (skip), Marion Willis, Neville Cousins and John Rochford defeated Meridith Kennon’s team 22/ 15. Neerim won six of the first eight ends including a five to lead 12/ 3 and by the 14th end led 17/ 5. Yinnar won five of the last seven ends but fell short by seven shots.
